Apple Bread á la Birkkala


1½ dl buttermilk

2.5 dl apple sauce

25 g yeast (or 1 bag of dry yeast)

1 tsp salt

½ tsp cumin

½ dl syrup

approx. 400 g Birkkala Wholemeal Spelt Flour


Crumble the yeast in lukewarm buttermilk. Add syrup, salt, cumin and apple sauce to the mixture. Add Birkkala Wholemeal Spelt Flour and knead the dough lightly. Let the dough rise. Knead the dough into a loaf on a floured bakeboard. Place the loaf into a greased bread pan. Let the bread rise. Bake at 175 degrees C for about 50 minutes. Grease the baked bread with a mix of syrup and water.
