The spelt team of Birkkala Farm is led by agrologist (AMK - polytechnic) Simo Larmo together with his wife, Riina Larmo. There are also two daughters in the family. Birkkala Farm “emeritus” farmers Jaakko Larmo and Pirkko Larmo also provide solid support. The core team also includes a food industry specialist, Birkkala’s excellent packing and mill workers, a financial professional and an IT specialist.

The earliest written records about Birkkala Farm trace back to the 16th century. The farm passed into the hands of our family in the 19th century, when our greatgreatgreatgrandparents Gustaava and Aleksius Lietzen (the name was later adapted into Finnish as Larmo) bought these plots of land and started farming. It’s a great honour to continue their work on the same land, now with organic farming and spelt, producing pure Finnish food.
